Dr. Mather’s entire career has been dedicated to the treatment of the face and neck, either for enhancing aesthetics and for reconstructing maxillofacial deformities, cleft lip and palate and facial trauma. By focusing exclusively upon treatment of the head Dr. Mather is able to provide specialized care to each and every individual that he treats.
Dr. Mather is a certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. With a passion for facial esthetic surgery, Dr. Mather provides his patients with a variety of surgical options to increase their confidence, enhance their features, and gain the beauty they’ve always desired.
Dr. Mather knew from a very early age that he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps to become doctor. Inspired by his father to benefit and improve patients’ lives he began his rigorous training completing a five year undergraduate dual major Bachelor of Science degree. Dr. Mather went on to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto. It was during this time that his passion for medicine blossomed. Dr. Mather’s achievements allowed him to obtain an appointment at the Mount Sinai Hospital, in Toronto, where he completed a one-year multidisciplinary residency. To further develop his interest in medicine Dr. Mather then pursued a years surgical residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Mather continued his training by completing a four-year specialty training program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, receiving his Masters of Science in oral cancer at the University of Manitoba. Placing a strong emphasis on advanced surgical expertise, following his speciality training, Dr. Mather completed a Craniofacial Trauma internship under Dr. Edward Ellis III at the Southwestern University, Dallas in order to more suitably meet the needs of an individual’s surgical requirements.
Dr. Mather began his career in Montreal working in private practice and as a clinical professor at McGill University and the Jewish General Hospital teaching both students and residents in maxillofacial surgery. He returned to Edmonton to set up his practice and life in the city that he grew up in and that he loves so much.
Today Dr. Mather practices a full scope Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical practice. He holds privileges at Viking Hospital and St. Marys Hospital. He is a member of the Canadian Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
